‘Gangnam Style’ Rapper Apologizes for Anti-American Protests; Will Rick Warren Change His Ringtone?

Last week, it was widely reported that pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church was bragging, both on Twitter and in the green room of CBS This Morning, that the ringtone of his cellphone is the popular song, ‘Gangnam Style’ by rapper PSY. The admission was lauded as an example of Warren’s relevance, despite the fact that many Christians would shun a song and video that utilizes suggestive language and images.

Reports have now surfaced, however, that PSY was involved in anti-American protests in 2004. Following the emergence of these reports, PSY today apologized for those actions.

The Blaze reports that, at a 2004 concert, the rapper, “raps about killing ‘Yankees’ who have been torturing Iraqi captives and their families.” The ‘Gangnam Style’ singer says that the protests were a “deeply emotional” reaction to the war that was raging at the time and says that he “will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.”

In spite of these recent developments, the White House today confirmed that President Barack Obama and his family will attend a charity concert on 21 December where PSY is scheduled to perform.

Of course, the question many now may be wondering is: will Rick Warren change his ringtone?
