NYC Repeals Prohibition Against Reparative Therapy Because It’s Unconstitutional

Obviously I didn’t want to repeal this. I don’t want to be someone who is giving in to these right-wing groups. But the Supreme Court has become conservative; the Second Circuit, which oversees New York, has become more conservative.

(Pulpit & Pen)  “The law is a gross intrusion into the fundamental rights of counselors and clients. Every person should have access to the counselor of his or her choice. No government has the authority to prohibit a form of counseling simply because it does not like the religious or moral beliefs of a particular counselor or client.”

The New York City Council has decided to repeal a ban on “reparative therapy” because they recognize that the two-year-old law will probably be struck down by the Supreme Court on the grounds that it is unconstitutional.

Although a proclivity to bestiality, incest, homosexuality, and gender confusion is primarily a spiritual issue that should be addressed in terms of sin and repentance. there may very well be a mental component to the behavior that can be helped by various forms of counseling. Such counseling is often called “Conversion Therapy” and spans the spectrum of everything from classical psychology to Biblical Nouthetic counseling.  View article →
