ERLC Website Says Not to Preach Against Abortion from Pulpit OR at Clinic

“So, you don’t have to post internet memes and videos, display bumper stickers, or make rude comments to tell me how terrible abortion is. Nor do you need to shout it from street corners or pulpits—I know. My mother knows. Over 66% of women know.”

(Pulpit & Pen)  A new blog post at the ERLC tells Christians not to preach against abortion from the pulpit, on the street corner, and not to use pro-life/anti-abortion bumper-stickers or slogans in social media. It is hurtful to women, they argue.

The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention is supposed to represent the views of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. However, it is run by a leftist political operative and former Democratic staffer, Russell Moore. In the ERLC’s latest attempt to steer evangelicalism to the left, its blog is now telling people not preach against abortion, whether in the street or from behind the pulpit.

Please note before proceeding that the ERLC utilized Karen Swallow Prior as a research fellow for years, who famously wrote in Christianity Today that “Abortion isn’t murder” and “calling abortionists murderers is unchristlike.” Russell Moore continued to defend Prior during and after that controversy and then helped secure her a job at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Also, please note that as the pro-life movement had the best year (2019) in the movement’s history with groundbreaking anti-abortion laws in many states, the ERLC was utterly silent on the topic.  View article →
