7 “ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! Matthew 7:7-11 (NASB)
While the passage above (Matthew 7:7-11) has been abused greatly by many false teachers in the Health, Wealth, and Prosperity part of the visible church, that does not mean it does not hold the truth for those of us who are truly in Christ….
In fact, those who actually serve the Lord His way know they can do nothing without spending much time at the throne of grace. This is necessary for none of us have one thing that elevates us above anyone else. We are all sinners. We are all, in and of ourselves, completely incapable of serving our Lord and doing His work in our own abilities. However, as we abide in Christ, take up our crosses and follow Him daily as a way of life, which means spending time asking, seeking, and knocking so we can receive and have doors opened that only God can give and open. My new book Complete in Christ is an example of of this. There is absolutely no way I could have done that work without the Holy Spirit working through me to do that. I am still “seeking” from the Lord what my next project will be.
