I am reading a book by J.C. Ryle right now. It is awesome if you like Biblical exegetical studies, that is. In any case, the name of the book is Expository thoughts on The Gospel of John. This post is born out of my reading the chapter titled “John 1:15-18”, which I read this afternoon as I was parked in the parking lot at the school where my two grandsons are enrolled. I was waiting for them to exit the building so I could drive them home. I finished the chapter about 5 minutes before I started seeing students coming out. I knew right then that I was going to put something together this evening about what I read. I pray this blesses you my brethren.
14 And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw the glory thereof, as the glory of the only begotten Son of the Father) full of grace and truth. John 1:14 (1599 Geneva Bible)
Even though we read the words “was made flesh” in v14 above (cf. Hebrews 1:1-3:2:14-18), this is referring to His taking on humanity. This reality is without a doubt the most profound ever because it indicates that the infinite became finite; the Eternal was conformed to time; the invisible became visible; the supernatural One reduced Himself to the natural. However, the Word did not cease to be God but became God in human flesh, that is, undiminished deity in human form as a man (1 Timothy 3:16)…. <Continue reading post>
