(Protestia) Director Mel Gibson has given more insight into the plot of his upcoming film The Resurrection of the Christ, telling the Christian Post it’ll feature different realms, both mentioned and unmentioned in the biblical text.
Unlike The Passion of the Christ, which was released in 2004 on a $30 million budget and went on to gross more than $600 million worldwide, the sequel will have a budget of more than $250 million and will be released in two installments, with the first releasing May 6, 2027.
“You’re going to different realms, of course. I mean, you’ll be in the firmament before the creation. You’ll be in the Hell of the just, and then you’ll be in the Hell of the damned. And so it jumps around a little bit. It doesn’t just stay on the planet here. It gets around.”
Gibson is likely referring to depicting Sheol or Abraham’s Bosom, contrasted with Gehenna and the Lake of Fire, as conceptualized in the story of the Rich man and Lazarus.
