Ray Ortlund Suggests ‘God No Longer Matters’ to People Who Voted for Trump

“Here in lies the vastly obvious difference. Donald Trump is NOT translating his personal immorality into national policy.”

(Jeff Maples – Reformation Charlotte)  The Never-Trump movement in Evangelical Christianity is not a new phenomenon. It started well before Donald Trump was ever elected into the U.S. Presidency. A movement spearheaded largely by Russell Moore of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), the vast majority of the TGC wing of Evangelicalism — who, for the most part, are incapable of thinking for themselves — have followed Moore’s footsteps with their tails wagging.

Ray Ortlund, a prominent contributor for The Gospel Coalition, recently tweeted that “God doesn’t matter” to people who voted for Trump.

The asininity of this position is mind-boggling to anyone with a modicum of theological acumen — or even common sense. To say that God doesn’t matter to people who voted for Donald Trump is like saying gravity doesn’t matter to people who put on a parachute before jumping out of an airplane. Yes, it is that absurd.

First, these Never-Trump progressive Evangelicals are largely in favor of wealth redistribution and social justice — so much so that they have been willing to overlook that VAST amount of immorality that is rampant in the alternative(s) to Donald Trump, namely, abortion and homosexuality, among plenty of other things.

Let’s be clear. Donald Trump is an immoral man — very much so. He gropes women, he has a hard time guarding his tongue, and he has said a number of things that would make any Bible-believing Christian cringe.

But, here in lies the vastly obvious difference. Donald Trump is NOT translating his personal immorality into national policy.

You see, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and all the other Democrats — who these neo-Calvinist TGC social justice warriors seem to have no problem with — actually actively work to make our national policies immoral. They want to expand access to abortion. They want to remove religious liberties, freedoms of speech, and the right to own guns. They want to force homosexuality and other immoral sexual behaviors down our throats, in public schools, and, if they get their way, even in private, Christian schools and homeschools.

So to claim that “God doesn’t matter” to people who vote for Trump is foolish. In fact, it is much more biblically and theologically accurate to say that God doesn’t matter to anyone who would vote to put a Democrat in office.
