The petition argues that the gospel “teaches love, equality, and dignity, all values that the MAGA movement clearly rejects” and that they can’t “let anyone believe that these Christian-nationalist politicians and far-right pastors speak for our faith—especially not when it comes to Donald Trump.”
(The Dissenter) A group of Roman Catholic and Protestant leaders called Faithful America has launched a petition garnering over 15 thousand signatures to oppose Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency. The group, which says they are “sick of sitting by quietly while Jesus’ message of good news is hijacked by the religious right to serve a hateful political agenda,” say they are banding together to “challenge Christian nationalism and white supremacy and to renew the church’s prophetic role in building a more free and just society.”
“We’re sticking up for courageous Christian voices acting for fairness and freedom in every denomination,” the website for the petition reads. “We’re fighting for social, economic, and racial justice, standing with the Black Lives Matter movement and upholding the Gospel’s values of love, equality, and dignity. Together, we’re helping make a difference for immigrants, refugees, the climate, the LGBTQ community, and more.”
