(Barry Bowen – Trinity Foundation) Televangelist Marcus Lamb of the Daystar Television Network died in 2021, and his parents died a decade before, but they were all listed as board members or registered agents in a 2024 corporate filing to Texas Secretary of State from Daystar affiliate WPXS Inc. In a separate case, the National Center for Faith-Based Initiative in Florida also listed a dead individual in its corporate filings.
Corporate filings, which include articles of incorporation and annual reports that disclose board members, reveal the power structure of both for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations.
These types of documents, along with an IRS Form 990, can reveal whether an independent board approves executive compensation.
Articles of incorporation sometimes disclose if church members have the power to remove a corrupt pastor, or if that role is reserved for the board of directors.
