(Revolver) Remember when your mother told you to eat your vegetables because they were good for you?
Well, apparently broccoli from the 60s was pulling a lot more weight than what you’re eating these days.
A new study out of the UK found that the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables has dropped like a lead balloon over the past several decades, with some crops losing 50 percent of key nutrients.
So, buckle up, because you might need to eat a LOT more produce today to get the same nutritional bang people were getting decades ago.
That’s quite a kick in the kale…
But in all seriousness, researchers say the problem is tied to the declining soil quality and decades of breeding crops to grow faster and bigger, rather than focusing on how nutritious they are when they finally land on your plate.
