When did Goliath wound David with a spear?

“A person watching this episode sees Goliath harming David, but God in his Word keeps David from all harm. The House of David version changes the arc of the David vs. Goliath story.”

(John Lanagan – The Word Like Fire) Okay, so when did Goliath wound David with a spear? Well, biblically speaking, never. In the Bible we see the all powerful God completely and utterly protect David as he faced the giant with nothing but sling and stone. (1 Samuel 17:32-51)

But in the epic, eight episode House of David television series, seen on Prime, this fictional spearing and wounding of David is featured prominently. So prominently, in fact, that Episode 1 of House of David includes the spear piercing scene–even though the David vs. Goliath conflict does not take place until Episode 8, the final episode of the season.

Some applaud this inserted fiction. Others believe this and all the other fictional additions throughout the series are disrespectful, perhaps even unholy. But, bottom line, does the spearing and wounding of David change what God intends to convey? And should a television series about David be expected to stay within the parameters of biblical truth?
