In 2025 and into 2026, reports of AI-generated child sexual abuse material surged — with some hotlines seeing increases of over 2,000%. Predators are now taking innocent photos of real children from social media and using AI to create explicit, realistic deepfakes for sextortion, blackmail, and the normalization of abuse. Children as young as 9 are being victimized, and the technology is evolving every day.

This is what happens when powerful AI systems lack strong moral guardrails.
