(Protestia) During his show yesterday, prominent conservative radio host Glenn Beck, who is a member of the Mormon Christian cult, explained to Dream City Church pastor Josh McPherson that evangelical Charlie Kirk and the LDS prophet Joseph Smith were the only people he considered “Christian martyrs” in American history:

“…responding to a conservative’s murder by fixating on how bad and gross his ideas were would be a political loser, just making liberals seem weird and callous and obsessive and off — especially given the likelihood that the murder was itself committed as an expression of objection to those ideas.”

“For Christians, this is the world we are going to have to live in. The cost of proclaiming Christ, a biblical worldview, and biblical sexual ethics is going up. The cost of saying “Jesus is Lord” is going up.”
This is a sickness akin to the pathetic women who strike up “romances” with convicted, incarcerated murderers by becoming pen pals with them. Sometimes the happy couple ends up having a prison wedding. There’s something fundamentally broken in these women, just like there is in the enemy of the people ABC “journalist” who found Tyler Robinson’s explanation for murdering Charlie Kirk “touching.” 
…[Stephen] Miller said Kirk’s final message to him emphasized the need to confront radical organizations that “foment violence.” Miller vowed that any response would be carried out “in Charlie’s name.”
“We must be careful not to treat him as a Christian martyr in the biblical sense. Charlie died as a political martyr—targeted for his conservative message, yes—but he was not killed for refusing to deny Christ.”

This theological framework didn’t come out of nowhere. They have all been heavily influenced by John Piper-esque “hedonism” theology and this is the rotten fruit of his theological orchard. Piper has long baptized what he calls “Christian Hedonism,” but in practice it is little more than a re-packaged asceticism—a system where glory is found not in the joy of obedience to Christ, but in manufacturing elaborate ways to “suffer for the gospel.”
