NBA moves all-star game to New Orleans over transgender law

According to Yahoo News the powerful LGBT lobby claims North Carolina’s House Bill 2, which says that boys and girls should be able to use public restrooms, locker rooms and showers without fear of the opposite sex being present, is hostile toward transgender people and praised the NBA for punishing the state.

NBAThe NBA has awarded its 2017 All-Star Game to New Orleans, the Associated Press reported on Friday, a month after removing it from Charlotte, North Carolina, to protest a state law forcing transgender people to use public restrooms matching their gender assigned at birth.

The AP cited a person familiar with the decision who spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision had yet to be announced by the league. NBA representatives were unavailable for comment.

The National Basketball Association had expressed its opposition to state House Bill 2, or HB2, since it was passed in March and tried to work with state officials to change the law before ultimately making a decision to relocate its mid-February exhibition game.

Obama To End Single-Sex Bathrooms on Federal Property

According to Breitbart:

Transgender bathroom signPresident Barack Obama’s deputies will insert a rule in federal regulations on Friday to prevent federal facilities from operating single-sex bathrooms.

The rule in the “Federal Register” of regulations will open up thousands of bathrooms in federally operated buildings to employees and visitors who claim on any given day to be “transgender” members of the opposite sex.

BuzzFeed reports it obtained a draft notice of the rule that was sent to federal agencies.

“Dead Raising Tents” Coming To The SBC or A Denomination Near You?

Scripture teaches that “it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” (Heb 9:27) Even so, NAR “prophet” Todd Bentley claims that he routinely raises the dead. “I actually have a dead raising tent that I’ve used for ten years in Africa,” declares Bentley. “I also use it for the demon possessed … cause I figure the dead and the demon possessed could be in the same tent.”  Bud Ahlheim of Pulpit & Pen has the story as well as the video of the false prophet making this absurd claim.

Raising of LazarusThe story of Lazarus in Scripture (John 11) is a powerful testimony to the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Given “authority over all things in heaven and on earth,” (Matthew 28:18) Christ’s act of resurrecting Lazarus had to be, for those contemporary onlookers, an event invoking staggering awe of His power. Equally, it serves for us as a powerful metaphor that we who, once dead in trespasses and sins, (Ephesians 2:1) have been brought from spiritual death unto spiritual life.

But … if you’re an instrument of demonic deception, the self-proclaimed power to raise the dead is a toxic talent that will drive thousands of Word-void souls to seek solace in the alleged divine touch of your hands, the presumed power of your prayers. Oh, yeah, they’ll no doubt fill your “support our ministry” coffers as well.

Target to Spend $20 Million Adding Single-Stall Restrooms Over Opposition to Transgender Policy

Christian News Network reports that Target’s solution is to add single-stall restrooms, not for transgender persons, but for those who are uncomfortable sharing a restroom with someone of the opposite sex.

Target StoreThe national retail chain Target has announced that it plans to spend $20 million in adding single-stall restrooms to stores without the option in an effort to quell opposition to its policy on transgender use of bathrooms and changing rooms.

“Some of our guests clearly are uncomfortable with our policy, and some are really supportive,” Target CFO Cathy Smith told reporters this week in a conference call.

As previously reported, Target outlined its company policy in April surrounding controversy over “bathroom bills” passed in North Carolina and Mississippi.

Two gates, two ways, two destinations

Matthew 7:13-14 (NA28)

13 Go in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate and broad is the way leading to destruction and many are those going in through it. 14 How narrow the gate and how hard is the way that leads to life and few are the ones finding it! Matthew 7:13-14 (translated from NA28 the Greek text)

It has been said that no prophet preached about Hell as much as our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also true that His preaching would be considered “divisive” and “offensive” in today’s politically correct culture. However, I seriously doubt that preaching the truth or hurting someone’s feelings or offending someone’s “sensibilities” were the issue with our Lord nor would it have made any difference. He would not hesitate to preach the truth because in God’s truth is life. In man-made truth is only death. Consider the passage at the top of this post. The lie that has taken over our society is that it is a sin to be narrow-minded. We must be as broad and as accepting as possible. We must be all-inclusive in all things to the point of madness. From this our enemy has sown the lies such as “There are many roads to heaven,” and since God is a good God He must also me a “fair God” so “eventually everyone will be saved.” The problems with this are that this “god” is a creation of these people’s wishful thinking not The God, our God, the Creator of all things. Also, in His Word, our Lord Jesus taught exactly the opposite of this as the passage above clearly says. View article →

Marriage Reduces Child Poverty, but Our Welfare System Penalizes Marriage

Rachel Sheffield of The Daily Signal has the report:

Marriage 2According to a recently released study from the American Enterprise Institute, 82 percent of lower-middle-class families with young children face “marriage penalties” in the welfare system.

Couples who marry would lose all or some of their welfare benefits because their combined income is often greater than each of their independent incomes.

The study found that couples with young children are less likely to marry if they face a significant marriage penalty. Furthermore, nearly a third of Americans between the ages of 18 and 60 reported that they personally know someone who has chosen not to marry because of the marriage penalty.

Whatever Happened to the Fear of the Lord?

Isaiah 6 holy, holy holyHow would you react if you were suddenly face-to-face with God?” inquires Bible expositor John MacArthur in a blog post he penned over at Grace to You. When Isaiah saw a vision of God he fell prostrate before Him and cried, “Woe is me! For I am undone.” Isaiah felt his guilt and shame in the presence of a holy God.  MacArthur reminds us that “We ought to be shaken to our roots when we see ourselves against the backdrop of God’s holiness. If we are not deeply pained about our sin, we do not understand God’s holiness at all.”

Now listen to Dr. MacArthur’s teaching on the Fear of the Lord:

HRC’s Back-to-School Tips: Add LGBTQ Topics to Math Problems, Check Pronouns

CNSNews reports:

MathThe Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) “Welcoming Schools Initiative” released back-to-school tips for educators Tuesday that include introducing LGBTQ topics into math word problems and “checking in on each other’s pronouns twice a year” to increase “accountability.”

The tip to integrate LGBTQ topics into everyday lessons includes a suggestion to “make sure that you suggest some LGBTQ people that your class can study such as Harvey Milk or Alan Turing.”

“Creating word problems?” the HRC classroom guide asks. “Rather than asking students to calculate the speed of a car carrying ‘Gabby and her mom and dad,’ ask them to calculate the speed of a car carrying ‘Gabby and her two moms’.”

22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you may eat, nor for your body, what clothes you may put on. 23 For the soul is more than food and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens that they do not sow nor reap, they have neither a storeroom nor a barn, and God feeds them. How much more worth are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying is able to add upon his lifespan a cubit? 26 If then you are not able to do as little a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow; they do not labor nor spin, but I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field today and tomorrow it is thrown into an oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you may eat and what you may drink, and do not be anxious. 30 For the nations of the world strive for these things, but your Father knows that you need them, 31 but seek his Kingdom and these things will be added to you.” 32 “Do not fear little flock because it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions, and give to charity. Make for yourselves purses that do not become old, with an inexhaustible treasure in the heavens where a thief does not come near nor does a moth destroy. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be. (Luke 12:22-34 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

No matter what I write about and post on this blog it seems that there is always someone with an agenda who has issues with those of us who use our discernment to single out one of their favorite “christian leaders.”  As I have shared many times, even though I never enjoy this, God usually takes these things and they become the focus of one or more posts. This is one of those posts. View article →

The Book of Mysteries: Hidden Keys or Hype?

Berean Research has the story:

Can you judge a book by its cover? If the statements made by any Bible teacher are to be biblical, than perhaps we ought to be Bereans to examine said cover. The often-controversial Rabbi Jonathan Cahn has published a new book titled, The Book of Mysteries, that comes out in a few weeks, and already there are three rather interesting declarations we are going to examine.

The author, Jonathan Cahn, wrote The Harbinger and The Mystery of the Shemitah. Additionally, Cahn has given himself the title of Prophet, claiming direct, extrabiblical revelation from God for the Church, as his biography states: “JONATHAN CAHN is known throughout the world as a prophetic voice for this generation and for the opening up of the deep mysteries and treasures of God.” Source.

I am the true vine and my Father is the vinedresser

John 15:1 (NA28)

1 “I am the true vine and my Father is the vinedresser.” John 15:1 (translated from the NA28 Greek text)

In John 15:1, we have our Lord’s last of His seven “I am” sayings signifying His claim of deity. The word “true” in v1 translates the adjective ἀληθινὴ, which is nominative, singular of ἀληθινός or alēthinos, “unfeigned, trustworthy, true.” The nominative case form, ἀληθινὴ of ἀληθινός means that the metaphor our Lord is making of Him being the “true vine” is subject to the main verb in the sentence which is εἰμι, which, of course, means, in this context, “am.” Therefore, our Lord is saying that the fact that He is, in fact, deity means that He is the “true vine.” What this means, of course, is that there are “other vines,” but He is the only one who is “true” and God the Father is the γεωργός or vinedresser. The noun γεωργός or geōrgos, “can refer to the owner of a farm or to those who work the farm.” Here our Lord is using this term metamorphically to refer to God the Father as the owner of a vineyard, the “vinedresser.” View article →

What could be wrong with learning to “hear God’s voice”?

Sheep listeningIn this blog post, Holy Pivec of Spirit of Error shares some of the highly unbiblical teaching that’s coming out of the apostate New Apostolic Reformation and is being taught to young and old alike. Sadly, many pastors and church leaders are biblically illiterate; thus they’re feeding their sheep unsound theology, even heresy, as evidenced in Pivec’s piece.  As a result of biblical illiteracy in the visible Church, more and more professing evangelicals are embracing Roman Catholic mysticism….which allegedly brings people to a place where they can experience God in a whole new way.  One way of doing this is through contemplative prayer.

So with this background in mind, Holy Pivec reveals why some folks teach that God is a “chatterbox.”

“Pope Francis” Claims Mary Was “Assumed Into Heaven Body and Soul” on Feast of Assumption

According to Christian News Network:

Pope FrancisJorge Bergoglio, also known as “Pope Francis,” asked for Mary to intercede for the oppressed on Monday and claimed to the thousands gathered to observe what is known as the Roman Catholic “Feast of the Assumption” that she had been “assumed into Heaven body and soul.”

“To the Queen of Peace, who we contemplate today in heavenly glory, I wish to entrust once again the anxieties and sufferings of the people who, in many parts of the world, are innocent victims of persistent conflict,” he said.

The Feast of the Assumption marks the Roman Catholic belief that Mary ascended into Heaven and did not suffer a physical death, although as the outlet American Catholic notes, “Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s assumption into heaven.”

Justified

Romans 3:23-26 (NA28)

23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption of Christ Jesus, 25 whom God displayed as a propitiation by his blood received through faith. This was in order to display his righteousness because in his divine forbearance, he passed over previously occurred sins. 26 This was to display his righteousness in the present time, for him to be just and the justifier of the one having faith in Jesus. Romans 3:23-26 (translated from the NA28 Greek text)

In my mornings before work or before anything else if it is the weekend or a holiday I spend some time in prayer as the coffee brews. I write down what I pray as this helps me focus. There is nothing legalistic in this. There is nothing mystical about it. This just helps me pray. It also gives me a record of what I pray, which is pretty cool when God answers one of those requests. Part of all of my prayer contain something similar to this,“…I pray for your glory in and through me this day. I pray for your kingdom to come into fulfillment soon. I pray for you to be glorified in my worship of you this day in church and in my walk and service. Use me as you will. I pray for wisdom and discernment…” There is alway more of course. Some days are better than others, but on those days when God’s Word really speaks to me and as I pray I do indeed worship. It is on those days that I have a deep sense of the magnitude of our Election, the Atonement, and our Justification. On those days, I worship, Oh yes, I worship our Lord and Saviour! View article →

Some Things You Should Know About Christians Who Struggle With Anxiety

From Tim Challies’ blog:

You have probably bumped into Adam Ford before, either through his comics at Adam4d.com or through his satire at The Babylon Bee. Over the past couple of years I’ve come to enjoy Adam as a friend and recently asked if he’d like to try his hand at another medium by penning a guest article. He obliged and this is the result. I trust you’ll benefit from it.

AnxietyFor 7 years I have lived with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Social Anxiety. It has completely changed my life. I have written and drawn about these things before and the response has proven to me that there are tons of Christians who relate to my story. This probably includes people you know. I also know that many are hesitant to tell others about their struggles. So for them, based on my experience, I compiled a little list of things you should know about your Christian friends and family who struggle with anxiety.

It changes us.

Before I had these issues I was an outgoing, type-A extrovert. I fed off social situations and loved being the center of attention. Today I’m a serious introvert who struggles mightily with social situations, unfamiliar settings, having any attention on me, meeting new people, talking on the phone, or even writing an article like this one. More often than not, I just can’t do it. I’ve been unable to leave my house for stretches of time. I’ve almost crashed my car while having a panic attack. I hate going to the doctor or the barber shop. I can’t do small groups with people I don’t know. I’ve tried so, so hard to go to conferences (I wanted to go to T4G so bad this year!), but I’ve never been able to go through with it. I’m a mess, really.

Obama: “Much more to do” on climate change

“There’s still much more to do. But there’s no doubt that America has become a global leader in the fight against climate change,” Obama said in the weekly White House address. “And if we keep pushing, and leading the world in the right direction, there’s no doubt that, together, we can leave a better, cleaner, safer future for our children.”

What Conservatives Did to Pull Off Religious Liberity Win In California

According to The Daily Signal:

California conservatives won a surprise victory this week, changing a state assembly bill that would have curtailed the freedom of private religious colleges.

“We literally were able to see tens of thousands of people mobilize to make calls and to write their legislators, and to participate in the political process,” William Jessup University President John Jackson told The Daily Signal in a phone interview.

“We were hearing from legislators who said that they had gotten hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of phone calls on just this one piece of legislation,” he added. “And I think that’s a tremendous, tremendous encouragement to me for the health of our state.”

It’s a victory that they hope will prove a bellwether for institutional liberty fights to come.

Mature in Christ within the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ

8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8 (NASB)

The Doctrine of Imputation is a wonderful blessing for the Christian. Christ’s Righteousness and perfect obedience to the Law were both imputed to the account of every believer at their justification. That means, in God’s sight, each and every one of us in Christ are as blameless in his eyes as Christ himself. View article →

It’s Not Too Late

By Ken Silva, 2012

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.” (Matthew 5:13)

Confusing Times

Confused 3Unfortunately we live in a time where there is just so much misinformation floating around; not only in the religious arena, but in every area of life. It brings this quote from wise old Solomon to mind: he who increases knowledge increases sorrow  (Ecclesiastes 1:18b). Many people seem so confused; and there’s lots of good reason why because with the false philosophy of postmodernism things that once seemed certain, are now being debated, and/or are simply redefined.

Christian Apologists Paul R. Belli and G. Richard Fisher of the respected counter-cult/apologetics ministry Personal Freedom Outreach are correct when they point out:

For too long, the Church has avoided essential Christian doctrine. Because we don’t do our homework, we produce theologically weak Christians. As a result, members fall prey to cults which could ultimately lead them away from a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Messages from the pulpit and from Sunday School teachers rarely focus on the essentials of our faith.

If anything, they are quickly touched upon or referenced to, causing little understanding and lots of confusion in the process. “Doctrine divides” has been the hue and cry. Yes, doctrine does divide – that’s its very purpose.

It divides us from the Jehovah’s Witnesses and from those [who would teach false doctrine, and] who promote a distorted view of Christ…[w]ith such a teaching vacuum created, this was bound to happen. Until the issue of how to properly handle the Word of Truth is dealt with by the Body of Christ, these problems are going to continue and false teachers…will continue to flourish.

Our young people are growing up in a dying nation, awash with relativistic political correctness, and skeptical, godless school systems indoctrinating them into the religion of secular humanism. The older generation is angry with the young because they will not listen to them, and the kids are bitter and angry because they don’t know who to listen to! People end up feeling like the frazzled housewife in the old TV commercial going through an incredibly hectic day until she finally cries to the product, “take me away!”

Is it any wonder why everybody is so on edge, and growing ever more nervous and confused in our caffeine-driven society? As the story goes:

There was a young man who was pacing back and forth incessantly in a room adjoining an auditorium where a series of lectures was being given.

A kind lady finally stopped him and said, “You seem quite nervous about going up to speak next.”

“Who, me? Nervous?” replied the man. “Not me. I’m not nervous. I make speeches all the time.”

The woman asked, “Is that so; then what are you doing here in the Ladies Room?”

So you see, it’s quite easy to get turned around.

Study To Show Yourself Approved

Bible How is it there is such confusing, and conflicting opinion in virtually every area of life? Well, the answer must be stated bluntly; there are too many who just do not have the proper qualifications to speak on the subjects about which they are so quick to pontificate on. Today we have a veritable cornucopia of so-called “experts,” who are simply no more capable in their fields than TV’s fictional Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor is in his Home Improvement workshop.

So, now it’s imperative that you be very careful to thoroughly check out whom it is that you choose to listen to. From the poison fruit of secular humanism and relativism we now have a severe crisis of morality in our society, and as a result there are many scholars who do not use proper ethics in their works. The honest scholar seeks to discover the actual truth; regardless of his own personal convictions. And while all of us, as human beings, are biased to at least some degree, the honest researcher does his best to set these presuppositions aside.

In the case of those of us who are Christians, we sincerely ask the Lord to keep our prejudices out of our work, but the fact remains: the objective seeker of truth is interested in one thing only: What does the actual evidence show to be true. And today more than ever as we see this apostasy growing and the sky turning red this morning, we must — Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

The time is now for the Christian to get back to studying what the Bible itself has to say and to further equip the saints to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). I tell you in the Lord that teachers of a counterfeit Christianity like Rick Warren and Brian McLaren and Joel Osteen have been allowed by the Lord as judgment against the church visible. It’s a wake-up call if you will; but the good news is, it’s not too late. Let’s renew our vows to our great God and Savior to boldly stand for His Truth, no matter what; to the end.

For it is written:

My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. (Lamentations 3:20-26)

Knowing the truth and turning from sin

1 John 5:18 (NA28)

18 We know that everyone having been born of God does not continually sin, but the one having been born of God, he keeps him and the evil one does not touch him. 1 John 5:18 (translated from the NA28 Greek text)

In 1 John 5:18 (above), in the best manuscripts, the word I translated as “him”  after the word “keeps” is the Greek noun αὐτὸν or auton, a personal pronoun, which is the Accusative, Singular, Masculine case of αὐτός or autos, “he, she, it, self, same.”

However, in the Textus Receptus, 1 John 5:18 reads as follows:

Οἴδαμεν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ γεγεννημένος ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ οὐχ ἁμαρτάνει ἀλλ᾽ ὁ γεννηθεὶς ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ τηρεῖ ἐαυτὸν, καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς οὐχ ἅπτεται αὐτοῦ

The King James Bible translates this as. “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

The best Greek manuscripts do not render v18 as the TR does. Did you see the difference between the two texts? The TR has the Greek reflexive pronoun ἐαυτὸν, “himself, herself, itself,” in place of αὐτὸν. This confuses the reading of the text. Is God protecting or keeping the Christian or is the Christian doing it ”himself?” No, God is keeping or protecting those born of Christ, to keep them from the evil one, that he may not touch them, what can we do in and of ourselves? Christians Forced to Hide Bibles Amid Migrant Muslim Death Threats

According to Breitbart:

Bundestag member Erika Steinbach and Iranian-born pastor Mahin Mousapour called for much stronger sanctions for Muslims who abuse Christians in Germany at a press conference on Monday.

Highlighting the fact Christians suffer violence, harassment, and death threats in migrant lodgings, Ms. Mousapour criticised Germany for granting Islam “too much respect”.  Declaring anti-Christian hate attacks an affront to German values, politician Erika Steinbach advocated the government deport migrants who insult or attack Christians.

At the press conference Ms. Mousapour, who converted to Christianity more than 25 years ago, reported that Christians face various forms of persecution in migrant housing.
