Pope Francis calls Donald Trump “not Christian” over wall stance

From Berean Research:

Ironically this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Many Protestants believe that Pope Francis isn’t a true Christian either. Why? Because he teaches a false gospel. (See our White Paper on the RCC). That aside, the Pope of Rome has no business injecting his personal views into American politics the way he has. Could his aim be to sway the election? Two out of six candidates are Catholics — Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. Would the pontiff like to see a Catholic win the nomination and go on to become the next President of the United States? Of course he would! I mean, think about it. Should either Bush or Rubio become president, the RCC would be in a much better position…..to rule the world.

Beck begs South Carolinians to support Ted Cruz — “Fall to your knees and pray to God to reveal to you what the hour is”

Wolf in sheeps clothing 4What many people don’t realize is that New Age Mormon Glenn Beck held a rally at a “church” whose senior pastor is New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) “Apostle” and wolf in sheep’s clothing Rick Joyner. Beck is in South Carolina stumping for GOP candidate Ted Cruz whose father, Rafael Cruz, is also ensconced in the heretical NAR movement. Just last week the senior Cruz received an “anointing” from Kenneth Copeland, a notorious Word of Faith/prosperity preacher.

According to Breitbart :

At a campaign rally held last week at the MorningStar Fellowship Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina, for GOP presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), radio talk show host Glenn Beck begged those in attendance to support Cruz’s campaign.

“I am telling you right now, this is your last call, America,” Beck proclaimed. “This is your last call.”

A video compilation created by the People for the American Way’s RightWingWatch.org shows Beck imploring attendees to seek God and ask Him who they should vote for in the forthcoming presidential elections.

God’s providence and inheritance

(Ephesians 1:11-12 NA28)

11 In whom also we were made an inheritance, having been predestined according to the plan of the one working all things according to the counsel of His will. 12 For us to be to the praise of His glory, having previously hoped in Christ. (Ephesians 1:11-12 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

Most modern Bible translations undoubtedly render v11 a bit differently than I did above. The words “we were made an inheritance” translates one verb, ἐκληρώθημεν, which is the Aorist tense, Indicative mood, Passive voice of κληρόω or klēroō, “obtain an inheritance. The passive voice is the key. Paul is saying that Christians are made an inheritance by God for God. One of the great misconceptions of our salvation, which is made by so many, is that it is the result of something we do, but how anyone could believe that after reading Ephesians 1 and 2 is beyond me. FCC commissioner: U.S. tradition of free expression slipping away

Washington Examiner reports:

The American traditions of free expression and respectful discourse are slipping away, and college campuses and Twitter are prime examples, according to a member of the Federal Communications Commission.

“I think that poses a special danger to a country that cherishes First Amendment speech, freedom of expression, even freedom of association,” FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai told the Washington Examiner. “I think it’s dangerous, frankly, that we don’t see more often people espousing the First Amendment view that we should have a robust marketplace of ideas where everybody should be willing and able to participate.

“Step Into the Healing Flow and Receive God’s Will For Your Life.” Jennifer LeClaire

Jennifer LeClaire is the senior editor of Charisma Magazine. Recently she made this comment on Facebook.

Healing handsIt’s a John 5:4 season in the body of Christ. Whatever needs healed. Whatever needs restored. Whatever needs new life, the Lord is asking “Do you want to be healed?” He wants to heal you. Don’t let the devil trouble your mind with doubt. Step into the healing flow and receive God’s will for your life.

To which the Museum of Idolatry responded:

Is it really “a John 5:4 season in the body of Christ” as she says?

Well, John 5:4 is the just about the WORST verse in the whole New Testament to be “proclaimed” or “declared” or “decreed.” Some translations of the Bible (The NIV and ESV, for example) don’t even have this verse-they just go from John 5:3 right to John 5:5! Why? Because this is the story of the angel stirring up the pool water that would cause people to get healed, and many experts believe this was inserted into the Bible later. Many reliable and early manuscripts don’t contain this story. The real purpose of this passage is to show that Jesus is God (not that Jesus is your personal genie-in-a-bottle). He’s the God who can (really) heal people, and we are not to trust in a pool that’s been stirred up by an angel-or any other superstition.

Jennifer LeClaire saying: “it’s a John 5:4 season in the body of Christ!” is kinda like saying: “it’s a stirred up pool season in the body of Christ!”

Who are the blessed?

18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. 19 It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud. (Proverbs 16:18-19 NASB)

The truly discerning, obedient, Christian who is seeking God’s will in his or her relationship with all in the Body of Christ is not one seeking a fight over every difference. Instead, the stronger brother or sister is to always be about seeking the defense of the conscience of the weaker brethren. In fact, those who are mature in Christ will not seek to have that known among the brethren at all, but are of lowly spirit, but always ready to teach and encourage those willing to be discipled. However, even in this, they know that what they are teaching is what they have received from their Lord and is not of themselves. View article →

“Keep Your $10”: “Christian” Rapper Andy Mineo Mocks Fans, Defends Use of Profanity

Christian News Network has the story:

An unrepentant professing Christian rapper, who is associated with similar artists such as Lecrae, Tedashii and Sho Baraka, is claiming that it is permissible for Christians to use profanity and is arguing in defense of those who profess Jesus but use expletives.

Andy Mineo, known for his “God Belongs in My City” nationwide concert tour, recently began a discussion on his Twitter page by posing the question, “Do you guys really think if a person uses ‘profanity’ (words we’ve given meaning) in their music they couldn’t possibly be Christian? Why?”

The question soon turned into repeated defense as followers opined that profanity is not becoming of a Christian.

“Well, the tongue is ‘full of poison.’ Let me ask this, if a preacher uses profanity on the stage what would that look like?” one follower, identified as Seth, asked.

Gladiator-style takedown of demonic forces (Reprise)

By Marsha West (First published in 2012)

A large number of Christians throughout the world consider themselves to be spiritual warfare prayer warriors. What they do is known as “intercessory prayer.” Most likely these prayer warriors are connected to a deliverance ministry. Deliverance ministers use “strategic level prayer” to “bind” the “territorial spirits” to remove demons who are in control of organizations, communities, cities and in some cases entire nations so that evangelism will go unimpeded. These demon fighting gladiators believe that poverty and other societal troubles will not be eliminated until “demonic strongholds” are torn down and demons are “bound.”

The aim of the Spiritual Warfare movement (SWM) is to take “dominion” over societal institutions and government. Once they have accomplished this lofty goal they’ll take over the kingdoms of this world and build a literal Kingdom of God on earth. This is known as Kingdom Theology.

What is the basic premise of Kingdom Theology?

[M]an lost dominion over the earth when Adam and Eve succumbed to Satan’s temptation in the Garden of Eden. God “lost control” of the earth to Satan at that time, and has since been looking for a “covenant people” who will be His “extension,” or “expression,” in the earth and take dominion back from Satan. This is to be accomplished through certain “overcomers” who, by yielding themselves to the authority of God’s apostles and prophets for the Kingdom Age, will take control of the kingdoms of this world. (Online source)

Kingdom Theology and deliverance/spiritual warfare prayer stem from the New Apostolic Reformation/Dominionism (NAR/DOM). I’ve covered NAR/DOM in other articles that can be read here. The purpose of this piece is the SWM, as this false teaching has spread through Charismatic and Pentecostal churches like a wildfire on a gusty day and it’s rearing its ugly head in conservative churches.

Many spiritual warfare prayer warriors are sincere people who believe what they’re doing is serious work, thus they don’t enter into it lightly and are very cautious when they engage in intercessory prayer. They also admit that they’re still learning the process of warfare prayer. The process they go through to rid the “client” of demons is called “therapy.” A person who’s cleansed of “cosmic beings” is deemed a “survivor.”

Some in the deliverance ministries put their focus on so-called demon possessed people. As I said, many of them are serious sincere people who do not take exorcism lightly — but the fact remains that they’re involved in an unbiblical practice.

So — imagine for a moment a sixty-five year-old woman who has never seen the inside of a gym, toe to toe with a burly man she believes to be possessed, body and soul, by a cosmic being. After a lengthy conversation with the man, she has determined that he’s possessed by a “demon of alcohol.” So the diminutive woman musters up her courage and glares into the drunk’s blood-shot eyes, “In the Name of Jesus Christ,” she bellows, ” I command you, demon of alcohol, depart from this man!” fully believing she has just sent a demon to the pit of hell. She also believes that the drunk has been set free from the demon once and for all.

You may be asking, “If a ‘demon of alcohol’ exists, how could the woman know with certainty that it had packed its bags and fled the scene never to return again?”

Before I answer the question, I need to provide some background on angels and demons. For the Christian to get the facts on creatures that dwell in the spiritual realm he or she must go to the final authority on these sorts of things — the Holy Bible. God reveals what He wants us to know about the supernatural world in the pages of Scripture. Anything beyond what the scriptures expressly teach on angels and demons is nothing more than pure speculation. Those in the SWM have taken speculation to a whole new level for the simple reason that much of their doctrine is based on just that — speculation. Also, they claim they’re receiving “new revelation” that replaces the Word of God even though Paul clearly taught that the revelation he and the other apostles received was the complete and final revelation from Jesus Christ. Paul even cursed those who brought a different gospel:

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (Gal. 1:8)

So, what does Scripture tell us about angels and demons? In Heb. 1:14 it says they are personal spiritual beings. Because they don’t have physical limitations they’re not bound by the laws of physics. Angels possess intellect (Mat. 8:292 Cor. 11:3), emotions (James 2:19Rev. 12:17), and will (Luke 8:28-312 Tim. 2:26).

From the book of Genesis we learn that there was a rebellion in heaven led by the angel Lucifer who wanted to exalt himself above God. The rebel didn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell against Almighty God and he lost the battle, big time. Thereafter Lucifer and one third of the angels who fought alongside him were expelled from the throne room of God. That’s the nutshell version!

There are over 40 names for Lucifer. He is the chief of demons…the god of this world (Earth)…Satan, serpent, devil, evil one, accuser, adversary, dragon, devourer, destroyer, tempter and the wicked one. Some of the names describe his character, i.e. deceiver.

When his time is up Satan won’t just cease to exist, he will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where he will be tormented for eternity. (Rev. 20:10)

Scripture refers to demons as spiritual forces of evil. These creatures are highly intelligent. They’re also vengeful, hateful, cruel, cunning and deceptive, with incredible supernatural powers. Demons are capable of causing physical harm and mental anguish. They have no regard for human life, marriage or the family. They can cause dumbness, deafness and suicide. They can possess the human body as well as animals and influence bodies and minds for evil. (Dabbling in the occult invites demon possession, and for the Christian, demon oppression.)

Demons recognize Christ as “the Son of God” and appeal to Him (Mark 5: 6-7).

One of the ways demons actively oppose the plans of God is by promoting false doctrine.

Ephesians 6:12 states Satan has a hierarchy of demons in his kingdom, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” In verse 15 Paul warns of the “fiery darts of the wicked.” Paul’s fiery dart metaphor was his way of warning believers to “put on the full armor of God” because evil spirits can inflame human emotions. Often times a demon will manipulate its target’s emotions causing him/her to fall into sinful behavior. Wearing the armor of God is the way Christians defend themselves against the forces of evil. (More on the armor of God here)

Satan is not omnipresent which means he cannot be everywhere. Only God is omnipresent. Noted theologian J. I. Packer explains omnipresence thusly:

“God is here, there, and everywhere, and his mind and hand are on everything. We are never out of his sight (Psalm 139), and we cannot get away from him (John 1).”

Which brings me to my point: “Binding Satan” is a complete waste of time and energy. Odds are that the prayer warrior will have a much greater chance of winning the lottery than binding Satan.

Satan is indeed a force to be reckoned with, but his powers are limited. Even so, after his fall from heaven Michael the archangel would not confront him without seeking the Lord’s help (Jude 1:9).

The following is an excerpt from Biblical Discernment Ministries (BDM) essay entitled Spiritual Warfare: Can a Believer Be Demon Possessed?:

[T]he only legitimate casting out of demons happened in the time of Christ and the apostles. This demonstrated that Jesus truly was the Messiah the Old Testament predicted would come. The Jews at that time would recognize that casting out of demons meant that the Messiah was present and offering the kingdom to the nation Israel. The apostles were given this authority to cast out demons as representatives of Christ. This authority cannot be transferred to anyone else.

The sign miracles Jesus performed were special and unique. No one has ever duplicated the miracles Jesus performed to confirm his messianic claims. Every false teacher and cult leader today claims “sign miracles” as a way of confirming their false teaching. None of them has walked on water. None of them has called a person who has been dead four days out of the grave with the words, “Come forth!” Moreover, no so-called miracle worker has been resurrected after death — not even famed faith-healer Kathryn Kuhlman.

Not only did Jesus raise the dead, after He was beaten to a bloody pulp, crucified and died, He came out of the tomb very much alive. His face was no longer disfigured from the beating he took, and there wasn’t a speck of blood on His resurrected body, only marks in His hands and feet where spikes were driven through flesh and bone and an opening where a Roman soldier drove a spear into His body. Moreover, after the resurrection Jesus appeared to more than 500 people at one time. (More on the resurrection account here)

What many Christians fail to realize is that although God continues to perform miracles today the “signs and wonders” we find in the Bible are not the norm today.

Earlier in the article we learned that when Satan was allowed to run Job through the ringer, he did not “speak to Satan, bind him, or send him to the pit. Job’s responsibility was to be faithful, resist, and stand firm.”

Later BDM says:

In the book of Revelation, demonic activity picks up again. But even in the sections which are addressed to the churches (chapters 1-3), there are no directions for speaking to demons. Even with the Church living under demonic pressure, where Satan’s throne was (Rev. 2:13), there were no commands to bind and/or cast out Satan and his demons. When Jesus spoke to the church at Thyatira, He did not say, “Bind Satan” or “You have a territorial demon, drive him out.” Even those believers who were under the influence of the wicked Jezebel were not told to break her demonic power. Revelation gives us a glimpse into the demonic world and what is taking place behind the scenes. However, we do not have any situation where believers are running around binding and casting out demons.

More from BDM:

It is all too common today for a spiritual warfare teacher to get up and bombard his listeners with story after story, experience after experience, from which he draws conclusions that form his views on spiritual warfare. More often than not, this kind of “skyscraper preaching” (sermons with one story stacked upon another) results in an approach to spiritual warfare that is built upon practices and techniques which do not measure up to God’s Word.

For example: often one begins to teach that Christians can be demon-possessed or something similar; Christians can inherit curses from parents; Christians need deliverance from certain kinds of sins in addition to the forgiveness received at salvation; Christians need to speak or do things to protect themselves and their loved ones from the demonic; Christians can boss Satan around by rebuking, binding, taking authority over him, or running him out of town, usually by sundown, all in the name of Jesus; demons occupy territories because of specific sins of those people which supposedly have given a basis for the demonic stronghold, instead of by permission of the sovereign will of God. These kinds of beliefs are mere superstition, the product of false mystical experiences which do not match up with the teaching of Holy Writ.

Getting back to the question posed earlier, would the “spirit of alcohol” flee when confronted by an exorcist, never to return? No — for the simple reason that there is no such thing as a “spirit of alcohol.”

Rest assured there is no spirit of any sinful human trait. Our peccadillos are works of the flesh:

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, wrath, selfishness, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like. (Galatians 5:19-21)

Paul states that “they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The fruits of the Spirit are:

“love, joy, peace, longsuffering [patience], gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness [humility], self-control.” (Galatians 5:2223)

Part 2 exposes false teachers who invented spiritual warfare prayer out of their fertile imaginations.

Give me a broken heart that yet carries home the water of grace

24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? (Romans 7:24 NASB)

All genuine Christians have one thing in common—they are imperfect people who, no matter how much they desire to be Christlike, will struggle with the paradox of being new creations slowly becoming conformed to the image of their Saviour while being mired in a body of death that wants to be ruled by their old sin nature. How often do we cry out to God to release us from this prison? What good can it do for us to struggle so with the demands of the flesh? View article →

The shepherd of the sheep

1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. (John 10:1-2 NASB)

In John Bunyan’s classic allegory, The Pilgrim’s Progress, Christian encounters two interesting men shortly after his own salvation. These two men are named Formalist and Hypocrisy. He saw them enter the Narrow Way by climbing over the wall which bordered the Left Hand of the path. Christian asks them what they are doing and where they are going. They reply that they were born in the land of Vain-Glory and that they are going for Praise to Mount Sion. Christian asks, “Why came you not in at the Gate which standeth at the beginning of of the Way? Know you not that it is written, That he that cometh not in by the Door, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a Thief and a Robber?” They replied, “…to go to the Gate for entrance, was by all their countrymen counted too far about; and that therefore their usual way was to make a short cut of it, and to climb over the wall, as they had done.” Christian asked, “But will it not be counted a trespass against the Lord of the City, whither we are bound, thus to violate his revealed Will?” They replied, “That as for that, he needed not to trouble his head thereabout; for what they did, they had Custom for, and could produce, if need were, Testimony that would witness it, for more than a thousand years.” View article →

Death, the prosperity gospel and me

From Berean Research:

Kate Bowler is 35 years old, a wife, mother of a toddler, an assistant professor of the history of Christianity in North America at Duke University, and the author of “Blessed: The History of the American Prosperity Gospel.” Kate recently found out she has stage 4 cancer. In a piece she wrote for the New York Times, she makes this astute observation:

The prosperity gospel has taken a religion based on the contemplation of a dying man and stripped it of its call to surrender all. Perhaps worse, it has replaced Christian faith with the most painful forms of certainty. The movement has perfected a rarefied form of America’s addiction to self-rule, which denies much of our humanity: our fragile bodies, our finitude, our need to stare down our deaths (at least once in a while) and be filled with dread and wonder. At some point, we must say to ourselves, I’m going to need to let go.

How do we discern the Lord’s will?

(Romans 12:1-2 NA28)

1 Therefore, I urge you brothers through the compassions of God to present your bodies as living, holy sacrifices, well pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service. 2 And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may discern the will of God, that which is good and well pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

Both the Apostle John and the Apostle Paul used light and darkness in analogies pertaining to spiritual life and spiritual death. For instance, in John 1:4, 5 the Apostle says, “ἐν αὐτῷ ζωὴ ἦν, καὶ ἡ ζωὴ ἦν τὸ φῶς τῶν ἀνθρώπων· καὶ τὸ φῶς ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ φαίνει, καὶ ἡ σκοτία αὐτὸ οὐ κατέλαβεν.” Or, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men; and the light shines in the darkness and the darkness does not grasp it.” In order to lay the foundation for this discussion on discerning the Lord’s will, it is imperative that we understand what is being said in these two verses. First, the “Him” in v4 refers back to ὁ λόγος or “the Word” from v1. This is, of course, our Lord Jesus Christ. In v4, we learn that in Him was ζωὴ or zōē, “life.” This ζωὴ is not simply the life we all have here and now, but was φῶς τῶν ἀνθρώπων or the “the light of men.” What does that mean? This light comes from God and brings to this dark world true knowledge, moral purity, and the light that shows the very presence of God. Finally, notice that this light shines into the darkness, but the darkness does not “receive, admit, or grasp” it. Those who discern the will of God are in His light. Those who cannot are in darkness. View article →

Christians’ true status in this lost and dying world

17 And HE came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:17-22 NASB)

11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. (1 Peter 2:11-12 NASB)

When a Christian is born of God into His Kingdom he or she also undergoes a change in status not only there, but in the kingdom of darkness, the world, from which they came. Carefully read the two passages I placed at the top of this post from the Apostles Paul and Peter. Sadly so much of what we hear in what pretends to be Christianity these days emphasizes the exact opposite focus. They push agendas of political reform and social change rather than in truly discipling their flocks to prepare them to be aliens and strangers (pilgrims) just passing through a very hostile world on the way to their real home. Is Twitter Censoring Non-Politically Correct Viewpoints?

According to The Daily Signal:

TwitterThe folks running Twitter may be too young to have heard of George Orwell, or perhaps they simply do not care that their new advisory council sounds frighteningly Orwellian. Either way, the brand new “Twitter Trust and Safety Council” seems like a board ready to censor comments in deference to political correctness.

It doesn’t help that among the more than 40 organizations that make up the council, one finds such groups as the “Dangerous Speech Project,” a group with ties to the liberal John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and to financier George Soros’ Open Society Institute.

Another council member is GLAAD, formerly an acronym for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (the organization now goes by just its initials). Feminist Frequency, which also seeks to monitor free speech, is another member of the council.

The council does include some groups that appear to do good work preventing cyber-bullying against the young. Absent, however, are any conservative-leaning groups.
