Historians trace it all the way back to the beginning of the Industrial Age when husbands spent a great deal of time away from home working in factories to support their families, leaving women in charge. Women were most present in church and, as might be expected, ended up “redecorating” churches, so to speak. They made them more “gentle,” more “sensitive,” more emotional.”
