Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other. Genesis 11:7

What is behind God’s actions here? Is He jealous of man? Is God threatened after all by this tower of mud and slime that these men have built? Does it mean that He is afraid that men will master all things and that He cannot any longer control them so that the very foundations of the universe will be threatened by these inventive ones? No. That is the way people want to read this. Forever we have been telling ourselves that we can do anything we want, if we want it badly enough! (Eric Davis – The Cripplegate)  Bamboo grows fast. Some bamboo-ologists say it grows roughly four inches per day in the right conditions. The fastest growing bamboo reportedly bursted up 35 inches in a day. That’s a growth you can watch. Oak trees are not like that. They grow about twelve inches per year. End to Aids in sight as huge study finds drugs stop HIV transmission

“The Partner study has given us the confidence to say, without doubt, that people living with HIV who are on effective treatment cannot pass the virus on to their sexual partners. This has incredible impact on the lives of people living with HIV and is a powerful message to address HIV-related stigma.”

If homosexual orientation could be included under “a strong pattern of temptation,” that pattern is not something God intends to leave in place. The “in-indwelling” Spirit is set on cleansing His children from “indwelling sin.” He also intends to use our faith and obedience to do it (Phil. 2:12-13). But where is the struggle with residual sin in the one who says he is a Christian, but who claims that his gay orientation is unchangeable?

Why is it that some Christians seem to be transformed by contact with Jesus Christ, but others are not? Some Christians, even Christians of long standing, still seem to be very much conformed to the world around them, even deformed in their views and outlooks. Yet all of them stoutly assert that they are Christians, that they too have been born again by faith in Jesus Christ. It is not strange that the world asks, What is wrong? Christian parents must be willing to fight for the heart and soul of their children

(Marsha West – Christian Research Network)  Recently I penned a piece to explain Bible believing Christian parents’ responsibility in helping shape their children’s worldview. I received a lot of feedback so I thought it would be a good idea to write a follow-up to “Christian kids must slay wolves in sheep’s clothing, not pet them!”

Let me start by saying that Christian parents must be willing to fight for the heart and soul of their children. In the same way we fight the spiritual battle each of us faces daily, preparing them to win that same battle requires parents, and to a reasonable degree, their children to  “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”  (Ephesians 6:10-12) Continue reading →

Baptist Theologian Says Christians Against Homosexuality Guilty of ‘Selective Literalism’

Discipleship Is…

As hard as it may be, every Christian needs to take an ongoing look in the mirror and ask: have I ever “made” a disciple? The Great Commission is not a mere suggestion so if Jesus commanded it, we ought to be busy doing it (Matt. 28:16-20). If you’re not sure what discipleship books to buy or where to begin, the Bible is still the best place to go for insight on what discipleship looks like. The peace that Christians have because they are in Christ is between them and God and because of that, with each other. However, that does not mean that there will be peace between them and those not in Christ. In fact, these words of our Lord in Matthew 10:34-38 make it clear that those truly in Christ will be so changed by the Gospel, the presence of the Holy Spirit in them, and their new nature that there will be inevitable separation between them and those who are not in Christ. Southern Baptist Convention Leaders Taking SBC Far From Its Biblical Moorings

Lighthouse Trails has a letter to the editor written by Lettie McNeece. Mrs. McNeece is concerned with SBC’s stances on contemplative spirituality, immigration, social justice gospel,  re-distribution of wealth, alliances with Muslims, Mormons, the Pope of Rome, and so on. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit

“I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come” (vv. 31–32).  – Matthew 12:22–32

We will conclude our study of the hard sayings of Jesus today with a look at what is perhaps the most difficult saying of all for Christian readers of the Gospels. Matthew 12:22–32 tells us about Jesus’ teaching regarding the unforgivable sin, and these words of Christ have troubled many people.
