Growing Number of Major U.S. Corporations Embracing Eastern Meditation Practices

From Berean Research:

America is up to its eyeballs in Eastern mysticism.  What does the Lord God have to say about adopting pagan practices?  Plenty:

When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations the LORD your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD your God, for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.”  Leviticus 18:1-1

In other words, God’s people are not to involve themselves in any Americanized version of Eastern mysticism.  Period.

Garrett Haley, who penned the piece I’m posting here, quotes from a blog post titled “The Subtle Body—Should Christians Practice Yoga?” by Albert Mohler of Southern Baptist theological Seminary:

There is nothing wrong with physical exercise, and yoga positions in themselves are not the main issue.  But these positions are teaching postures with a spiritual purpose.

Mohler concludes:

Christians who practice yoga are embracing, or at minimum flirting with, a spiritual practice that threatens to transform their own spiritual lives into a “post-Christian, spiritually polyglot” reality.  Should any Christian willingly risk that?”

Now to Garrett Haley’s report:

Jerry Falwell Jr. Compares Donald Trump to King David, Talks About Watching Elton John Together on Private Jet

According to Christian News Network:

With presidential campaigning in full force, Jerry Falwell Jr., president of what heralds itself as the world’s largest Christian university, is defending and cozying up to the lead contender on the Republican ticket, recently recalling to the university newspaper how he and Trump watched an Elton John concert together on the billionaire’s private jet—a man whose sins he dismissed by comparison to God’s appointment of King David.

As previously reported, Falwell has repeatedly sought to assure the American people of the mud-slinging, foul-mouthed candidate’s Christianity, pointing to the candidate’s good deeds as being the “fruit” that Jesus spoke of that characterizes a man who is born again.

“I’ve seen his generosity to strangers, to his employees, his warm relationship with his children,” he said on CNN’s “Legal View With Ashleigh Banfield” last month. “I’m convinced he’s a Christian. I believe he has faith in Jesus Christ.”

Is genuine Christianity a life or is it a doctrine?

6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following. (1 Timothy 4:6 NASB)

From January 1986 until the late fall of 2005 I probably would have, if asked, responded to the question in the title that Christianity is a life or at least a relationship while doctrine, though unnecessary, helps us understand that. I didn’t really believe during that time that doctrine was of any real value. Why? My whole understanding of Christianity is that it is based on my experience. For some odd reason I didn’t think much past that in an attempt to understand why my experience would be so radically different than other Christians’ experience. View article →

Christian celebs want to unite the Body of Christ with….wolves?

From Berean Research:

Bud Ahlheim of Pulpit & Pen fills us in on The Gathering, an upcoming event where wolves in sheep’s clothing posing as Christians and a few of what I refer to as the low-information evangelical (LIE) will be gathering to “unite the Body of Christ in America.”  Why do LIEs wish to unite believers with those who teach doctrines of demons?

Please tell me how these sorts of events glorify God.  And how. pray tell, do they help those who are seeking Truth?  Speakers at The Gathering include Church leaders such as Ronnie Floyd, Jack Graham (SBC), Kay Arthur (noted Bible teacher) and Anne Graham Lotz (on behalf of Billy Graham) who, for reasons known only to them, choose to gather with WOLVES such as Kenneth CopelandRobert Morris (Word of Faith) and Samuel Rodriguez (NAR).

What’ll it take to get LIE celebs to guard against error?

Ahlheim writes:

Southern Baptist Convention President Ronnie “Armani” Floyd is at it again. He’s attending yet another ecumenical conference; this one is advertised as “a solemn assembly”. It has been dubbed “The Gathering” and a gathering it is.  It’s a whose who of evangelical outlaws, in-laws, crooks, and straights.  Apparently, the main requirements to be apart of this “solemn assembly” are the ability to use “God” in a sentence and attract a million dollar following. The ability to use God’s name correctly is apparently optional.  The website for the event, which is evocative of some new age, mystical conclave, can be seen HERE.  By the time Floyd attends this event, which is scheduled for September 21, 2016, he will (thankfully) no longer be the President of the Southern Baptist Convention. Yet his willing participation in this rogue’s gallery gathering brings great harm to the witness of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Utah Senate Approves Bill Requiring Abortionists to Give Anesthesia to Babies Being Murdered

According to Christian News Network:

Baby in the womb Senators in Utah have approved a bill that would require abortionists in the state to give anesthesia to unborn babies so they cannot feel pain as they are murdered.

“Let’s call it what it is: It is killing babies, and if we’re going to kill that baby, we ought to have the humanity to protect them from pain,” bill author Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, said on the Senate floor.

On Friday, the Senate voted 19-5 in favor of Bramble’s bill, S.B. 234, which applies to babies five months in gestation or older.

The Christ of God

18 And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the people say that I am?” 19 They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.” 20 And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “ The Christ of God.” (Luke 9:18-20 NASB)

Who is the Christ of God? Did you notice how confused those outside of Jesus’ circle were about who Jesus really was? However, reading the passable in context (Matthew 16) we find that Peter knew who Jesus really was because it had been revealed to him by the Father. I contend that there is still confusion about who Jesus really is. There has to be because so many so-called Christian leaders are preaching “another Jesus.” Let us look at evidence within God’s Word about who Jesus really is. View article →

28 Things You Didn’t Know About “Christian” Psychology

From Berean Research:

When it comes to what’s called psychology in the Church, Matt Tarr of ParkingSpace23 believes that much of what’s termed “Christian” psychology operates on a theology of man that’s antithetical to a biblical worldview.  According to Tarr, so-called “Christian” counseling “largely espouses a form of positivism (or neopositivism), optimism, and a philosophy of self-esteem that contradicts a biblical view of man’s wretched, sinful condition.”

Pastor Tarr’s view is that the Bible believing Christian who’s in need of counseling must look for a person with a biblical view of mankind.  Moreover, Christians must not heed the advice of someone who’s steeped in the unbiblical philosophy of self-esteem because it’s anti-theology.

Counseling

Like any pastor, I make it a major discipline in my life to read a lot. I must; I cannot allow my tools to grow dull. And, like any pastor SHOULD, I spend a significant portion of my week counseling the flock of God. Of course, that means a significant portion of my regular readings come from books on counseling. At any given time, I’m always working through five or more books to help me diagnose the soul and apply biblical principles to the hearts of the hurting, weary, or fainthearted. It is in fact a sad reality that many pastors have absolved themselves from the responsibility to counsel. Some because it isn’t a priority and they don’t make the time. Others because they have actually been taught not to by their colleges and seminaries. And a few don’t feel adequately equipped. Whatever the reason, pastors who don’t counsel their flock refer their sheep to another authority: human philosophy.

Mark Driscoll will resurrect his ministry with Easter Sunday “gathering” in Arizona

As previously reported, disgraced “pastor” Mark Driscoll recently had a RICO law suit filed against him alleging that while he was the CEO of Mars Hill Church in Seattle he “engaged in a pattern of racketeering activity so deeply embedded, pervasive and continuous, that it was effectively institutionalized as a business practice, thereby corrupting the very mission Plaintiffs and other donors believed they were supporting.” With this in mind, we have an update on the Driscoll saga from the Seattle Times:

Ex-Mars Hill Church senior pastor Mark Driscoll, relocated in Arizona, will launch the first “gathering” of his new Trinity Church on Easter Sunday at the Glass and Garden Drive-In Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The newly launched Driscoll congregation has signed a rental contract for the 50-year-old church, which opened on Easter Sunday in 1966.  The official launch of the church has not yet been announced.

The resurrection of Driscoll’s ministry at Easter comes less than two weeks after four former members of his now-defunct Mars Hill Church filed a racketeering suit against Driscoll and a top aide.

Southern Baptist Pastor Calls Cult Member an Intelligent, Committed Christian

Pulpit & Pen has the story:

This isn’t about politics. In fact, I’m disgustingly tired and bored with politics. At this point, I really couldn’t care any less who wins the upcoming presidential election, because all the candidates are losers.

However, it’s a major problem when a pastor who purports to hold to the orthodox view of the Christian faith continues to show absolute disregard for biblical truth while leading a political crusade in the name of Jesus that calls into question everything the Scriptures teach about Christianity.

Now, we all know how pro-life Donald Trump is. He understands the sanctity of human life–how all human life is created in the image of God, including the unborn. We all know that Donald Trump is a repentant sinner, who understands that the Gospel is the necessary solution to the problem of sin in America today.

Wait, wait, wait!

Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10 NASB)

1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 The Lord said to Satan, “ The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. 4 He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “ Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” 5 Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the Lord was standing by. (Zechariah 3:1-5 NASB)

In the book of Zechariah we have a wonderful passage that gives us a picture of God’s gracious and merciful work in saving those who deserve nothing but the flames of Hell. View article →

Jesus Christ vs “another Jesus”

3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. (2 Corinthians 11:3-4 NASB)

Every professing Christian, whether he or she is a trained theologian or not, has constructed some kind of Christology in their mind, in their heart. Sadly, with the dearth of clear and correct doctrine being taught in our churches, most seem to believe that whatever their own concept of Christ is it is okay. After all, to have correct doctrine isn’t that important…right? Some think that Jesus came to give His followers a “better life” here and now. This would include becoming prosperous and influential. Others see Jesus as mostly concerned about the environment and that He is the ultimate tree hugger. Still others see Jesus as primarily a teacher of ethics, therefore, He is all about social justice. This same Jesus is concerned with accepting all into His kingdom regardless of whether they have repented of their sins or not. Are any of these examples representative of the Jesus we meet in God’s Word? View article →

The Ownership of the Name “Calvary Chapel,” the Dove and the Appearance of a New Symbol

Roger Oakland of Understand the Times examines what has been going on inside Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa since the passing of Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel movement..  Oakland asks some important questions such as “Who really owns the Calvary Chapel name?”

A new symbol has appeared at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (CCCM). Some may be wondering if this new symbol will be replacing the Calvary “dove” that has symbolized Calvary Chapel for decades. For now, at least, the dove logo seems to have gone “undercover” on the back wall behind the podium at CCCM and replaced by another symbol projected on the wall. Those who attend Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa will have seen it and know what I mean. Or if you receive ”tweets” via Twitter from Brian Brodersen, Chuck Smith’s son-in-law, you will have seen the new symbol. Brodersen inherited the pulpit at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa because of his marriage to Chuck Smith’s daughter, Cheryl. Since Pastor Chuck passed away, many changes have occurred at CCCM as the “new Calvary” replaces the “old Calvary” under new leadership.

Below is the banner used to promote Brian Brodersen’s Sunday morning study for Revelation 9:13-21 on March 6, 2016 that was sent out by Twitter:

LifeWay & Beth Moore: What Ails Us

Bud Ahlheim of Pulpit & Pen illuminates us on Beth Moore’s troubling teaching.  Despite all the warnings and wake up calls Bereans are shouting from the rooftops, many women still idolize Mrs. Moore and choose to follow her decidedly unbiblical, and oftentimes dangerous, teaching as you will see here:

This email was waiting for me in my inbox this morning.  It’s from LifeWay Women. Now, I’m not a woman, and I don’t remember signing up for emails from this gender-specific marketing arm of the heresy peddlers in Nashville.  Still, I’m not unsubscribing because, paraphrasing what my mom used to say to me, it shows “just what ails us”.  (Mom actually used the query “What ails you?” as a stern form of maternal correction.  Most of the time I got the message!  Hmmm, maybe Beth needs a stern “What ails you?” warning from someone.)

bm

If you have basic discernment skills, the email screen grab above shows exactly what “ails us”.

That Beth Moore is a false teacher is granted, and obvious to most.  LifeWay must be making oodles of cash from promoting her nonsense.  In case you haven’t been paying attention, LifeWay isn’t exactly known as a responsible, discerning affiliate of the Southern Baptist Convention.  The SBC just disregards the obvious concerns that ought to be causing air-raid heresy sirens to blare.  But, nah, never mind that.

Now, back to the email graphic above.

Who are these Christians?

30 ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν. (John 10:30 NA28)

30 “I and the Father are one.” John 10:30 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

Genuine Christianity, not the false versions of it, is unique when compared to the world’s religions. In fact, those false versions of it are just like the rest of the world’s religions in one regard that makes genuine Christianity absolutely unique. All other “religions” are based upon some form of works based theology and belief system in which some form of justification is made through those works which increase the value of the person in that religion thereby gaining the reward. On the other hand, genuine Christianity is nothing like that at all. Salvation or justification comes as a result of something God has set out to do and has completed. Those who are justified were elected by him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1) based upon no works or deeds or value inherent in them  (that none may boast). All of the work to justify these elect was done by God and completed; and he, being sovereign and all-powerful, saves them all as we will see in the short passage we will exegete below. Those who are saved are new creations after their justification because God himself regenerated them so that their dead faith is made alive and they are now able to believe the gospel and be saved (Ephesians 2:1-10; Titus 3:5). Who believes? Who are these Christians? View article →

Wounded Warrior Project’s top execs reportedly fired amid lavish spending scandal

Fox News reports:

DEVELOPING STORY: The two top executives of the Wounded Warrior Project — among the largest veterans charities in the country — were fired Thursday after an investigation into accusations of lavish spending on parties, hotel and travel, CBS News reported.

Wounded Warrior Project’s CEO, Steven Nardizzi, and COO, Al Giordano, were fired by the charity’s board amid criticisms about how it spends more than $800 million raised in donations in the past four years, CBS News reported.

The charity’s board of directors made their decision after a meeting in New York City, where they received preliminary results of a financial and policy audit, sources told CBS News.

The charity came under fire after an earlier CBS News investigation in January revealed large amounts of spending on administration, meetings, and travel.

‘Young Messiah’ makes merchandise of men’s souls

Movies such as this one are theologically dangerous warns Berean Research.  The executive producer of the film, Chris Columbus, also produced two Harry Potter films. Columbus said in an interview that “Young Messiah” is the “greatest story never told.”  He also said that he had a team of theologians looking over his shoulder and according to them the film is historically accurate and “orthodox.”  That is highly unlikely since the film is based on Anne Rice’s novel “Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt.” Prior to writing about the life of Christ, Rice penned a series of books about vampires, became famous, and made a small fortune.  And then she set her sights on Jesus.

Anyone who has read the Bible knows that the scriptures are silent on Jesus’ life as a child; thus, anything written about Him at age 7 is shear speculation!  What’s troubling about all this is that gullible people are going to believe the story’s true. Even worse — professing Christians will see this train wreck and (good grief!) they’ll purchase the merchandise.

Now to BR’s piece:

You can’t have a Christiollywood blockbuster without the bling.  While you won’t find Young Messiah Happy Meal toys in your fast food, the Jesus trading cards and games introduce a whole new kind of fandom.

Screen Shot 2016-03-10 at 2.50.26 PM Screen Shot 2016-03-10 at 2.54.46 PM

Successful movies require bling. Successful Christian genre films require endorsements and film-based preaching. From sermon guides and resources to small group study materials, the film is quickly making merchandise of men’s souls.

Boston Catholics demanding the name of “St. Patrick” be removed from upcoming “St. Patrick’s Day Parade.”

MassResistance reports:

The Boston-based Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, in conjunction with MassResistance, is calling on people of faith everywhere to demand that organizers of the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade remove the name “St. Patrick” from its title.

This will be the second year that two openly homosexual groups, OUTVETS and Boston Pride, with their “gay” banners and other distinctive mannerisms (men dancing together, etc), will be part of it. (OUTVETS is a contrived “gay veterans” group created by employees of the Mayor of Boston specifically for the purpose of getting into the parade.)

The sword that divides

34 Μὴ νομίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον βαλεῖν εἰρήνην ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· οὐκ ἦλθον βαλεῖν εἰρήνην ἀλλὰ μάχαιραν. (Matthew 10:34 NA28)

34 Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. (Matthew 10:34 translated from the NA28 Greek text)

The peace that Christians have because they are in Christ is between them and God and because of that, with each other. However, that does not mean that there will be peace between them and those not in Christ. In fact, these words of our Lord in Matthew 10:34-38 make it clear that those truly in Christ will be so changed by the Gospel, the presence of the Holy Spirit in them, and their new nature that there will be inevitable separation between them and those who are not in Christ. This holds true even within families. This is true because the genuine believer is so changed that no matter what sort of pressure comes to bear on them, they simply cannot be at peace with the ways of the world or the ways of the flesh. Their conscience is bound to Christ and His Word while those not in Christ have consciences bound to the flesh no matter how religious they are. View article →

Administration Official: “Our Streets Are Flooded With Heroin” With Much of It “Coming From Mexico”

Jim Daly Joins Muslim Sheikh and Robot Spiritual Guide at Ecumenical Culture Conference

Jim Daly is the CEO of Focus on the Family which is (or was) a Christian organization. According to Jeff Maples of Pulpit & Pen not one topic listed includes the name of Jesus, even though the conference is supposedly a Christian event.

I do not sit with men of falsehood, nor do I consort with hypocrites. I hate the the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked. Psalm 26:4-5

What could better describe an “assembly of evildoers” than an ecumenical conference that includes Muslim Sheikhs, Native American pagans, and, I wish I were making this up, a man who will give a presentation on offering spiritual guidance to robots.

The Q Denver conference, in April 2016, will host a multitude of quasi-religious leaders as well as secular experts of various fields, to preach and teach on cultural issues. The website states,

As our culture changes, Christians have an incredible opportunity…we will explore what renewal and faithfulness might look like in society today…From the ideas and current issues shaping society to the truth that transforms the world, you will be informed and gain confidence that God is at work in his mission to renew all things…Education by thought leaders and stories from change-makers will inspire a hopeful way forward.
