Charles, who served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, was no theological gatekeeper and he certainly was not without his problems. However, Charles did appear to genuinely love his son Andy, and on many occasions, vocalized his opposition to many of Andy’s progressive views, albeit in a non-forceful way.
